So I got an email today that nominated me for a Liebster Award. What is a Liebster Award you ask? I HAD no idea. ;) But apparently it is a blogging award that is like a chain letter. If you accept it, you have to answer 10 questions that were sent to you and then you nominate 5 other small blogs you like (less than 200 followers) and send them ten questions to answer.
So I was sent this award from Hannah Teej from The Lemon Hive. (Thanks Hannah!) and here are her questions:
What inspires you on daily basis?
The easy answer would be, of course, my kids because I love the way they look at the world and often that will change my perspective as well. But I am more inspired during a time then by a thing. Any moment when the world quiets for me. When the silence enters is when I often will find myself wandering in my head.
What does your ideal day look like?
Hmmmm. It would start early. I would have time to drink tea and sit and read blogs in a cozy spot in the house. When everyone wakes up, we would make a yummy breakfast together that included lots of bacon. After breakfast we would head off in the car to some small town we haven’t been to and explore it for the day. We would return in time for supper and early bedtimes. And I would cozy up on the sofa with the husband for a movie night of an awesome happy-people-blue-sky movie I haven’t seen yet.
What does your real day look like?
I DO wake up early most days to get some time in alone with tea. But I usually spend that time working. The kids wake at 7am and I make their breakfasts while I get them to change (and sometimes change again “3 degrees is TOO cold for shorts”) and check that their homework is done. I make lunches (ugh) and usher them out to the school bus that picks them up at the end of our driveway. By now it is 9am and I head inside to get some more work done until 11:30 when I head to the local pool to swim laps for an hour (SLOWLY! I am not a great swimmer, I just love the water). After swimming, I usually stop in town and do errands, pick up groceries and then head home. I may get some time to finish work, or do a project before the kids get off the bus at 4pm. Then it is homework, dinner, showers and bedtime. Once all is quiet (usually by 8pm) I will settle in to watch some television (HIMYM or Parenthood) and then head off to bed shortly after. I can rarely keep my eyes open past 10pm since I gave up coffee. And then it starts over again.
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I love reading about REAL people and REAL ideas. I gave up reading magazines a few years back because I felt like some of the stuff I read was putting me into a negative space. I was placing crazy expectations on myself whether it was my size, or look, or house. I love blogs that show the REAL stuff. Things that aren’t perfect. Life that isn’t always rosy. Limitations and insecurities. I hope I bring some of that to the table as well.
If you had to give one piece advice to a large group of people, what would it be?
Happiness is a choice NOT a destination.
If money and time were no object, where would you go?
Probably Bora Bora to stay at one of those huts that sit right on the water.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In an IDEAL world, we would be back home on the East Coast. I would still be working from home but with more blogging. In an not so ideal world, that same thing will happen but here instead. ;)
Salty or sweet, what’s your flavour?
I love foods that combine BOTH. Like spicy fahitas with sour cream. YUM!!
What’s your pet peeve?
I have a hard time with the sounds fingernails make. The clicking. I have hard nails that I have to keep uber short because if they catch on something it HURTS! So when I hear nails clicking or see people bend their nail back, I can practically faint!! (feeling woozy just thinking about it!)
Guilty pleasures, do you have them?
Do blogs count? Hmmm. I guess romance novels. I can curl up with a good historical romance from Julia Quinn or Lisa Kleypas and when I have read everything else, a quick read from Harlequin. If it is cheesy and has a happy ending, I am all for it!!
